Here is a walkaround of our Itasca Suncruiser. It is a 31ft class A and we have been redoing the interior. There is a trampoline in the bedroom - I know -let the mind run free. There are also our bikes in the living room. The exterior needs a bath. We keep it in storage at a facility that is next to a gravel company and the dust is bad.
We are going to work on the exterior this spring to make it look beautiful!
Yesterday was such a beautiful day. I had to go and check on the RV to make sure that it will be ready for the season. We are doing some minor remodeling on the interior and will be working on the exterior soon. After I finished looking at the RV I went to the open space down the road.
This open space is located around 104th and Colorado avenue. It has a few small fishing ponds. People were out fishing and enjoying the 70 degree weather. 70 degree weather in March is a time to celebrate.
I took a walk around the ponds and shot a little video. The geese were preening and sunning themselves. The flickers were pecking at the trees and singing. This video is the video I shot. I hope you enjoy it.
Well a Hot air balloon rally sounds like a lot of fun. I wanted to see some balloons flying and so did my wife. Loveland Colorado was a good hour and a half from where we are living. The event was supposed to take place at 7:30 am sharp. So that meant we had to be on the road around 5:30 am. Not to early - but not our usual time.
So we took off for Loveland. We new if felt cold but when we heard the radio forcast said the temperature was a balmy 22 degrees out. Ouch! That is a bit chilly. Neverless - we traveled on! Neither rain nor snow….. you get the idea.
When we arrived the place was crowded (for so early and cold). There was even a couple who planned on getting married in a hot air balloon. All looked like a lot of fun except for one thing - the wind was blowing way to hard.
They said that the rally was going to be delayed for an hour. It was cold and my wife was seeking shelter. I had my camcorder out and ready. I had my camera posed for action. None happened though.
After the hour turned into two hours and the wind was not cooperating - the bride and groom’s team tried to launch a balloon. They began filling it and it started to have a mind and life of it’s own. It started to go in directions that they didn’t intend it to go. So they had to shut it down and the couple jumped into a basket and was married there.
After all this excitement Marcia and I drove into Loveland for breakfast and then went to a statue park in Loveland and took a few photographs. The weather got warmer and we had a great time taking back roads home and enjoying the scenery.
Not what we expected but we made the best of the day. That happens sometimes with cheap adventures. All it cost was gas, food and time - a nice and lovely time at that.
Here is a picture of our adventure mobile! The 32 ft Itasca Suncruiser. She is a 1989 model and we paid $10,000 for her. She runs great and we have had a number of adventures with her. This picture is taken in an RV park in Loveland. What beautiful place and it seemed like we were miles away from everywhere.
I reality we were just a little outside of Loveland. The park is called Riverview RV Park and Campground.
This was one of the first adventures that we had. It was a wonderful weekend and I recommend this as one of your stopping places to visit. To quote their site:
“Hidden beneath the cottonwoods at 5100 ft elevation, RiverviewRV Park and Campground is near the Big Thompson Canyon entrance. We are 30 minutes from the beauty of Estes Park and 20 minutes from the art, shopping and numerous activities of Loveland and Ft Collins. Cheyenne and Denver are about an hour’s drive from Loveland on I-25.”
This place was reasonable for a weekend adventure. Quiet, beautiful and close to nature without driving for hundreds of miles. The distance from Denver wasn’t bad and they had a small store to get a few items from. Loveland was down the road if we needed anything else. We didn’t leave the camp all weekend. Just stayed and relaxed and soaked in the beauty.
Colorado is such a beautiful state to be in.The mountains, lakes, streams and other places of beauty that make the state a treasure are there for you to see.Unfortunately when there is such beauty, people want to be there and it drives the cost of living there or visiting it up.It can cost you an arm and a leg to do anything.
I don’t know about you, but I wanted to see the state in all its glory. The thought of spending all my hard earned money to see it wasn’t very appealing.I’m not saying I’m cheap, just a frugal person.I work hard for my money and I don’t want to spend it unnecessarily. With that said, I still get see a lot of this beautiful state.I want to share my adventures in my travels with you.
I worked as an outside salesman for a wholesale distribution company here in Colorado for a number of years. This gave me the opportunity to drive around and see many of the sites in the state of Colorado. It was during these travels I was able to find fun and exciting things that you can do on a very low budget. In other words - get change back from your dollar.
Being frugal doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable.I’ve done my share tent camping and sleeping on the ground is not my idea of a lot of fun anymore.Weather is also another issue yet to deal with when you’re planning adventures. So my wife and I decided that we needed an RV.Being the frugal guy that I am, I didn’t want to purchase a brand-new RV - it was in my budget anyway. So after several months of shopping around, we found a nice class a motor home that was a pretty decent shape and the price is right in our budget.
So here comes the Itasca Sun cruiser motorhome. What a beauty she is.My wife and I have full-time RV’d in the past and plan to do it again in the future. So we wanted to do some modifications on this RV to make full-timing easier.I spent one summer carry out all the carpeting, painting the walls, laying down new tile, and a variety of other upgrades and improvements. We did have a mechanic check the RV out and we are ready to roll.
We still plan on full-time someday in the future. But in the meantime we are using our RV to do many of these new and cheap adventures that we love to do.
