Using Public Domain Products To Create Your Ebook
By Jurgen Schmechel

Have you have heard of the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill? If you have then you are aware of a public domain product. When a book is written, it is immediately copyrighted however when the author of the book passes away, after a certain number of years the copyright to the book expires and it becomes public domain giving you an instant opportunity to create a product using these free public domain resources.

If you search on Google for "Think and Grow Rich" you will come across a large variety of web sites that are giving away or selling that book. It's just like having resale rights to a product that you don't have to pay for and since the copyright has expired and now it is in the public domain.

One of the best places you can look is for public domain products is Project Gutenberg. gutenberg.org They have a massive collection of what is currently in the public domain.

Any good book that you might know of that was written in the 1920's or earlier is probably in the public domain now and you can grab a copy of it and do a number of different things to create your own profitable product.

Since the product is in the public domain you can sell it as a basic text copy of the book however since you haven't added any value to it, not many people will get excited about it however people do take this approach and do still make money.

However, by adding value to the book somehow you will set yourself apart from the run-of-the-mill offers which will most likely translate into profit.

Another way to add value to a public domain book, and this works really well if you are already have some knowledge about the topic, is to become a co-author and add additional comments or recent information to the book. While adding this content will take a bit more time and isn't quite an instant product, it will make the book far more appealing by bringing it into the present day. By adding information like current day statistical comparisons to examples used in the book you can easily demonstrate that the methods written possibly over 100 years ago have sustained the test of time and still genuinely work.

In addition, the 'modern day comparison' information would give you a truly unique product and also provide valuable information to use in your marketing to demonstrate the relevance of the book still to today's market.

Make sure you give proper credit to any resources that you use or ask permission if you want to use a block of text or an article from a web site. Most people would be more than happy to have their information published as an authority on the topic also. They may also be interested in selling the finished product to their customers giving you an instant joint venture partner.

By adding value to an existing public domain product you can effectively create your own unique ebook without having to do the hard work of writing every word of the content yourself. If you are having difficulty getting started, consider this option as one of the easier ways to write an ebook.
