Does Writing Your First Ebook Seem Overwhelming?
By Jurgen Schmechel
However, before going into the first step, I need to emphasise that your attitude is one of the most important factors in book writing success
. You have to be confident that you can finish the task at hand. Do not fear that you don't know enough to write an ebook, you do! You know more
that you think, seriously.
So, to take the confusion of book writing away, and help you gain the confidence you need, here are some ideas for you to think about if the
thought of writing your first ebook seems like just too much for you right now:
- Choose a topic for your ebook that appeals to you and which you can see yourself spending time writing and researching. If you haven't
selected a topic yet, consider focusing on a specific area and being targeted in your approach. Think about your market and what they need to
know because then you know that you have a pre-qualified market ready to buy your ebook.
- Make an outline of what you think should be included in your ebook. This is often a great starting point and can inspire other thoughts.
Consider writing it down on a notepad or using a mindmap program and just brainstorm everything you want to include. Don't worry about the
correct order, just get all of your ideas down and then re-arrange them later.
- Think about the objective of the ebook and what you are trying to convey to the audience. Can you include an ongoing theme such as
quotations to illustrate your point or if it is an educational guide, consider some action steps or review questions at the end of the
chapter.
- Break your topic down into smaller pieces. If sections are logically grouped together it might be easier to start with a small section first
instead of thinking of it as one huge electronic project.
- Look at the topics that you have outlined or the smaller section groupings that you have made and write short (250-500 word) articles on
each idea that you want to include in the completed ebook. If these short articles are good enough themselves then your ebook might be as simple
as just combining a group of these articles otherwise, you can expand on each article to give you the contents for the completed book.
Once you have done all the ground-work, you can actually get down to writing the ebook itself. Before you start writing, you have to have a
good picture of your readers and write to them. Write your ebook as if you are talking to the person and use language as you were talking to a
friend.
Forget about proper grammer and paragraph structure and don't focus on writing chapter after chapter in the correct order. If you get stuck,
more on to a new section and come back later to finish it up. You may have new thoughts and ideas which can help you proceed later. Just focus on
writing and before you know it your first ebook will be completed.
Getting started writing your own ebook doesn't have to be overwhelming. Just use any of these simple ideas to get yourself moving. Have a
confident attitude and your first ebook will be easier than you thought.
